Young, Simple and Delicious - Tomatin 2014
In my impression, younger Tomatin has always been quite good — with sugarcane-like sweetness and a light powdery note that seems to be their house style. For me, younger Tomatin has always left a pleasant impression: that sugarcane juice sweetness and soft cosmetic powder aroma, a combination that is hard not to love.
Tomatin 2014 - Refill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead 10 Years
Of course, for someone like me living in Scotland, there’s no point talking about those beautiful 1970s vintages — they’re long gone to Asia. Here in Scotland, what remains are the many young new releases springing up like bamboo shoots after the rain.
This Tomatin 2014, bottled by Decadent Drinks, is exactly as I said at the start — simple but good to drink. Matured for ten years in an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead, it adds elements of red berries, black grapes, wine gums, nuts, and milk chocolate to the naturally sweet character. added a wee bit of complexity and nearly perfect balance.
And the label, with a bird that looks like a pigeon but is actually Nigel the Capercaillie, adds a playful & fun touch to this drams.
